The Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (“CARES”) Act became law on March 27, 2020.
CARES Act also allows requires the Secretary of Education to defer student loan payments of principal and interest for through September 30, 2020 without any penalty to the borrower for all federally owned loans (this is estimated to cover 95% of student loans).
